A local training event for optometrists practicing in the East Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board area or those who often refer to ophthalmology at the Princess of Wales Hospital.

The focus of the evening is glaucoma and the anterior angle assessment, with an emphasis on improving patient outcomes and building better communication between optometric practice and secondary care.

There will be input from WOPEC accreditation tutors and local ophthalmologists. 3 interactive GOC CET points have been applied for.

The evening will run as follows:

5.45 pm – arrival and registration
6.10pm – lecture from glaucoma consultant Mr Kadaba Rajkumar
6.45pm – refreshments and buffet
7.15pm – workshop: Glaucoma and Anterior Angle assessment

The evening will be finished by 9.00pm.

The workshop will include discussion and practical tutorials in the following:

•    Reasons practitioners might refer a patient into secondary care
•    The Redman-Smith technique
•    Using slit lamps to examine and grade the anterior chamber angle

Delegates will have the opportunity to demonstrate the techniques they currently use in practice and to observe how their colleagues perform angle assessment.

This event is funded by Welsh Government and free to practitioners. However, those who book a place and do not attend will be invoiced for £50 by Cardiff University.
